The top AI chatbots for 2022
My congratulations! If you were searching for the best AI chatbots, you finally found a piece of content that is not listing disabled bots or chatbot vendors.
Here I will share the list of living best conversational AI chatbots, and what’s more — you can even talk to some and test their artificial intelligence.
A little note!
There are many good chatbots on the web, as bots are here to stay, but being the best is doing more than just understanding human typing. Here are the criteria I chose for making a list:
- AI chatbot. It has to understand free language apart from predefined flows.
- AI chatbot for business. I said No to Mitzuki or Replika, as they don’t solve any business challenge and are just for fun.
- UX design. Colors and visual appearance is crucial for branding and user experience.
- Chatbot persona or personality. Yes, ai chatbots have to solve problems, but it doesn’t mean that they have to be straight, plain, and boring.
- News coverage. Are there any articles from Forbes, Business Insider, etc., that reported on the chatbot success? Yes? Then, probably, these chatbots aren’t bad.
- AI chatbot’s result. How many users? What is the success rate? How many inquiries had it solved?
Let’s begin!
The Bean
Industry: Travel, City, Engagement
Platform: Website
Company: Choose Chicago
The global pandemic changed the travel industry forever. Before deciding on dream destinations, we have to check all the restrictions or rules. Besides, people got so used to using different technologies (from social media to apps, from apps to chatbots) that ignoring this fact will risk you losing present and future customers.
Choose Chicago, the official destination marketing organization for Chicago, was the first to understand this challenge.
”Getting visitors to Chicago is Choose Chicago’s core mission, and with today’s new hybrid, always-on world, we knew that we needed to build solutions to help visitors make the most of their Chicago journey. That is why we created The Bean, an AI-powered chatbot,” shared Glenn Eden, Board Chair of Choose Chicago.
More on the development story read here.
Key features of the Bean:
- Finding restaurants, attractions, events based on your location
- Answering questions on the COVID restrictions
- Sharing information on accommodation options, getting around in Chicago (taxi, bus, etc.)
- Providing details on current festivals
- Answering stupid questions related to Chicago
Yep, this smart bot also handles some questions like “do you like New York,” “is it windy,” or “do you have mafia?” for those who believe filmmakers like John Hughes and Steve James that have made the Windy City cinematically famous.
What I like about this AI chatbot is that it clearly states at the beginning what you can and cannot do via The Bean. Moreover, if you choose “How to talk to The Bean,” you will receive messages to help you make the most from this talkative technology.
The onboarding flow is one of the best chatbot practices but not the only one when you create website chatbots. Have a look at this article.

Oscar
Industry: Travel, Customer service
Platform: Website, Facebook Messenger
Company: Air New Zealand
Oscar transforms how we book and manage our flights. Launched in 2017, Oscar proved how smart it is by helping 2000 + people daily. The chatbot can answer questions on more than 550 topics, and you can reach out to him on Facebook Messenger, Google Assistant, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. And, of course, on the Air New Zealand website.
As Air New Zealand strives to be at the forefront of innovation, Oscar’s been a huge boost to how we help customers right when they need it.
Key features of Oscar:
- Resend booking confirmation
- Check Airpoints Dollars™ balance
- Claim missing Airpoints Dollars
- Order a replacement Airpoints card
- Book or change a flight
- Change username or password
- Confirm flight time, seat, special meal, bag allowance
- And many more
Again, this chatbot has a great personality, and the creators worked hard to make it funny and a little cheeky, so you can ask some questions like: tell me a dad joke, what’s the meaning of life, or who’s your mother.

Bolt (Zoom chatbot)
Industry: Communications, Customer service
Platform: Website
Company: Zoom
Bolt is a very simple chatbot compared to previous chatbots in the list, but what is outstanding is the story behind Bolt. As you know, Zoom became the #1 tool for virtual meetings worldwide. Thanks to Bolt, the company handled the COVID-19 outbreak, when the growth went from 10 million to 300 million daily meeting participants between December 2019 and April 2020.
Key features of Bolt:
- Speaks 25 languages
- Provides instructions on how to solve simple problems like a camera is not working
- Provides information on how to use Zoom
- Shares information on Plans and Pricing
- Connect with Support, Sales, Billing & Account Management teams
Bolt is easy to use, but I don’t think it’s the best example of user experience as when it doesn’t understand your wordings, the chabot sends three articles in a row — which I find a bit overwhelming. However, it’s still one of the best examples of a customer service chatbot. Practical and simple.

Ailira
Industry: Law, Automation
Platform: Website
Company: Cartland Law
In 2018 Ailira revolutionized the law world, proving that there are tasks that could be automated, and humans could lose their job — as ABC News reported in their reportage on how a paralegal competed against Ailira on a complex legal tax task.
Anyway, Ailira is a chatbot that generates legal documents that are much cheaper and faster than a legal professional could do. The price is 50$ vs. 1550$, which I find a huge difference. Besides, Ailira can help you find answers to your legal questions, and it can help with two legal issues: Generating a Will and Creating a Business.
More on the development story read here.
The NLP part of how the chatbot understands what you type had excited many media, as Ailira’s story was covered in The Australian Business Review, International Business time, Legal Futures, and more.
In case you have some questions about what documents you need to start your own business, chat with the chatbot here.
The end!
p.s. This is the first version of the list, but I’m planning to update it with new chatbot examples so people can have more to compare and get inspired by what is possible to do with an AI chatbot.
